Antrim Town is set to pick up a prestigious international award within the next few weeks. The European Capital of Hate Crime Award will be announced shortly and Antrim has pulled out all the stops to ensure they are victorious.

Heroes of Antrim Town Enterprise (HATE) which is running the campaign on behalf of the Town feel they have received very positive feedback from the Capital of Hate committee.

Benjamin Cross from HATE spoke positively of the town’s chances.

“We really feel like our multi-pronged attack has clinched the award. Months of low-level racist intimidation wasn’t really getting us the traction or publicity we needed.”

“The HATE Council came together last week to brainstorm ideas to take us to the top of hate-crimes. Not only did we spend a little money -well a lot, hoods don’t come cheap – to force eight immigrant families out of the Ballycraigy Estate”.

“We decided to multi-task the shit out of this thing. We attacked some catholic families too. We all know the saying ‘Sectarian hate crime gets you good news time’. But, listen, here’s the clincher. One of the fen… eh… catholic families had a severely disabled child.  Talk about two birds with one stone.”

The awards committee said they’ve never seen sectarian, racist and disabled hate crimes all in the one week. ‘Unprecedented’, they said beamed Mr Cross.

It is thought that Antrim is well ahead in the running, though they were run very close by the Russian Military in Ukraine, and Hungary’s treatment of immigrants at their border.

The award comes at an important time as Antrim and Newtownabbey Council do their best to prevent visitors and investment coming to the area.

A Council spokesman said “This is f**king class. Local houses for local people. It’s like vintage. So old and outdated, it’s become cool again.”

Results are expected to be announced by Friday 12th July and it’s certain to put Antrim on the map – internationally – along with the KFC and it’s Centra.
